Walmart Grill Scraper DIY Home Decor
Sometimes, I come up with DIY decor ideas and then figure out what supplies I need to make them, but that isn’t the case for this Walmart Grill Scraper DIY Home Decor.
I was literally checking out at Walmart. My husband’s card was IN the card reader to pay for everything we had in our cart, and I was just browsing through the shelves right by the register.
That’s when I found the wooden grill scraper, and it was ON SALE! I know we can’t get everything from Dollar Tree, but you can’t be upset when it’s on sale!

How to Make a Walmart Grill Scraper DIY Home Decor
I started this DIY by using a ruler to draw a straight line across the paddle portion of the Walmart grill scraper.
Then, I outlined the handle of the Walmart grill scraper with my Dollar Tree dot stickers. It doesn’t matter if you use white or colorful stickers because we’re going to paint over them.
Pour some brown paint (I used Apple Barrel Burnt Umber) onto the Walmart grill scraper and use a wet wipe to spread the paint across the surface.
If you’re worried about your stickers coming off the wood grill scraper, you can use a little bit of hot glue to secure them more.
I used a paintbrush to spread the brown paint over the stickers to keep them from pulling up off the scraper.
Let the paint dry completely on the wooden grill scraper. I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process, but you can use a hairdryer on the low-cool setting.
How to age your Walmart grill scraper
Then, I painted the front and the sides of the Walmart grill scraper with Folkart white chalk paint. I did full coverage of white paint and lightly sanded the surface once the paint was dry.
Just be careful sanding over the stickers because you want don’t to pull the stickers from the surface.
Use a fine-tip paintbrush to apply a small amount of the Kilz dark wax to the edges of the Walmart grill scraper, then use a wet wipe to smudge the wax.
The wax helps create an aged finish for this DIY project. I then went back over the edges with a sanding sponge to bring out the dark-stained color of the scraper.
Alternate with sanding and applying wax until you’re happy with how aged your Walmart grill scraper looks.
Apply the Dollar Tree rub-on transfers
Clean your wood grill scraper and remove any paint dust from the surface to get ready to apply the Dollar Tree rub-on transfers.
Pick and cut out your rub-on transfers and place them on the grill scraper. I used a giant craft stick to rub and press the transfer onto the surface.
I used a fine-tip paintbrush and lightly brushed a small amount of brown paint onto the surface and used a wet wipe to smudge it and finish up the aged finish.
Make sure the sides of the Walmart grill scraper are just as aged as the front, then you’re ready to decorate with this adorable DIY decor!
