Rustic Patriotic American Decor

This Rustic Patriotic American Decor is so easy and affordable to make that you’re not going to be able to stop yourself from making it ASAP!

I love making DIY home decor that is simple to make but still looks like high-end home decor, and I really think I hit the nail on the head with this one!

For this project, I will be using these items but you can substitute where you want.

How to Make Rustic Patriotic American Decor

Step one of making this adorable farmhouse decor is to separate the plies of the red patterned napkin. If you don’t, the patterned ply might not adhere properly to the surface of the tag.

Then, you need to paint the Dollar Tree USA tag with white paint. I used Apple Barrel White Acrylic Paint for my Rustic Patriotic American Decor, but you can use any white paint you prefer or have on hand.

Allow the white paint to dry completely (I used my heat gun to speed that up!), then apply a coat of Mod Podge over the paint.

Place the patterned napkin ply onto the Mod Podge, and use a rolling pin to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles in the napkin.

Once the Mod Podge is dry, you need to remove the excess napkin from around the tag. I used a sanding sponge and lightly sanded the edges of the tag to rip the excess napkin off.

Next, you are going to decoupage the star part of the Dollar Tree American flag napkin onto the Dollar Tree wooden star.

Again, you need to separate the napkin plies, then apply a coat of Mod Podge to the star and place the star portion of the napkin ply onto the wooden star.

Bring it all together

Start bringing your Rustic Patriotic American Decor together by hot gluing your decoupaged star onto the decoupaged wooden tag. Then hot glue your scrabble letters underneath the star.

Next, I made an adorable raffia bow. Take a bundle of raffia and secure the center with a piece of jute twine.

Then, trim the ends of the raffia and fluff them out. Before I glued the raffia bow to the tag, I started making the DIY bead hanger for this Rustic Patriotic American Decor.

Take your wooden beads and put them in a small mixing bowl. Spray them with water, pour some white paint into the bowl, and swirl the beads around until they are all coated with paint.

I kept swirling the beads around while I dried them with my heat gun. Once they were all dried, I removed the jute from the wired jute cord and threaded the beads onto the wire.

You need to drill two holes at the top of the tag. Push the ends of the wire through the holes in the tag, and use a pair of pliers to twist the ends of the wire and secure the hanger in place.

Finally, finish making your Rustic Patriotic American Decor by hot gluing your adorable DIY raffia bow above the decoupaged star!
