How to make this Patriotic Spindle American Flag
If you want to see the full supply list or video tutorial for this Patriotic Spindle American Flag, just scroll to the bottom of this page!
I started by staining all of the pieces to my spindle American flag craft kit with Waverly antique wax. Use a paintbrush to apply the wax to each piece and a wet wipe to remove the excess.
Allow each piece to dry completely, then paint a coat of white paint over the spindles. Let the white paint dry, and lightly distress each spindle.
Paint the large rectangle piece with red paint and allow it to dry. I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process.
Next, I mixed a bit of blue and black paint to make a deep blue and used that mixture to paint the star cutout rectangle.
Lightly distress the red rectangle and blue star cutout. To create the grunge feel, brush wax over both pieces and wipe over them with a wet wipe.
Next, I placed the star rectangle on the large backing, traced its shape, sanded the red off that rectangle, and painted that space white.
Once the white paint was dry, I lightly brushed wax across it so it would match the other pieces. Also, brush wax across the distressed spindles and wipe the excess off with a wet wipe.
Next, stain your wood beads with your wax. It’s easiest for me to roll them around in a folded napkin. Allow them to dry, then thread them onto a piece of jute twine.
To finish up, paint each of the stars with white paint. Once everything is dry, glue all the pieces in place on the large rectangle and glue the twine hanger to the back of the spindle American flag!
For this project, I used these items but you can substitute where you want.
