Neutral Valentine’s Day Door Wreath
This neutral Valentine’s Day door wreath was so much fun to make and it turned out so stinking cute!
You can take the kit that I used and add to it to a wreath like I did, or work it into your decor inside your home.
Instead of attaching it to a wreath, lean it on a shelf in your bathroom, set it up on your mantle in the living room, slide it in with your decor on your coffee bar. The choice is yours!
Want to go for a more neutral or year round look? Use more neutral tones like I did and avoid overusing reds and pinks!
Want it to just SHOUT Valentine’s Day?? Swap out some of the neutral paint colors for pinks and reds!
The possibilities are endless!
You get to fully customize and personalize the unfinished love lives here Valentine’s Day house kit to make it match your decor style!
How to make a Neutral Valentine’s Day Door Wreath
I start every kit I use by sanding each piece with a sanding sponge or sandpaper. This helps remove a layer from the kits that builds up when it is being laser cut.
Once each piece of the Love lives here House Kit was sanded, I stained each of the pieces with DecoArt Raw Umber Acrylic Paint.
Pour a bit of the paint on a paper plate, mix in some water, and use a sponge or wet wipe to spread the mixture onto each piece of the kit.
Allow each piece to dry fully before continuing. I like to use a heat gun to speed up the drying process because I’m impatient! You can use a hairdryer on the low, cool setting as well.
I used a triangle sponge to drag white paint across the “paneling” parts of the house. I wanted it to look distressed a bit, so I didn’t go for full converage.
Next, I painted the “chimney” portion of the house with a teracotta/rust orange paint. For the roof, I used black paint.
Paint the overlay frame piece
I added some detailing to the frame overlay piece of my love lives here Valentine’s Day house kit. I painted the window pieces black as well as the lights for the porch area.
Then, I painted the door frame black as well. Next, I started painting the smaller embellishment pieces like the trees and heart.
I painted the heart red and used my three green paints to paint the wreath and two porch trees. I wanted them to have more dimension and detail, so that’s why I used three different shades of paint.
For the pots of the porch trees, I used the same teracotta/rust orange paint that I used on the house’s chimney.
I painted the Love Lives Here lettering with black paint and then painted the little heart on the letters with red paint so it would pop out.
Bring it all together!
Once the paint on all the pieces are dry, you can start assembling the kit! I like to use E6000 glue or superglue to assemble my kits, especially if they’re going to be displayed outside.
There are holes at the top of the house for you to hang it if you want to that way. I glued twine to the back of the house and used that twine to tie the house to my wreath.
Lastly, I tied a bow out of black buffalo check ribbon and secured it onto my wreath!
