Joy Christmas Shelf Sitter
I had so much fun bringing Hobby Lobby and Dollar Tree craft supplies together to create this adorable and affordable Joy Christmas Shelf Sitter!
Honestly, I love this idea so much because it is so versatile. Change the word and tissue paper pattern and you can create a shelf sitter for any holiday or season!
Who doesn’t love being able to repurpose ideas to save money all year long??
How to make a Joy Christmas Shelf Sitter
I started this fun Christmas craft by painting each of the three Dollar Tree wooden decorative drawers with white paint.
This creates the base color before we decoupage the tissue paper and helps brighten the pattern of the tissue paper.
To decoupage the tissue paper, allow the white paint to dry, then apply a coat of Mod Podge to the wooden decorative drawers.
Place the tissue paper onto the wet Mod Podge. You can cover the drawers with plastic saran wrap to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles in the tissue paper.
Dry the tissue paper completely, then remove any excess tissue paper from each decorative wooden drawer.
What’s next?
After each of the drawers was decoupaged and dried, I drilled a hole in the top of each drawer to slide the wood dowels into.
Then, I wrapped each of the blocks in the ribbon to create the “gift” look. I used scissors to cut a hole in the ribbon where I had drilled a hole in the wood.
Next, I trimmed the dowel pieces and painted each of them white. Then, I painted each of the JOY letters with black paint.
After each piece was completely dry, I began assembling the Joy Christmas shelf sitter. I glued the wood dowels into the holes that I drilled, then glued the JOY letters to the top of each dowel.
Once the glue is dry, you’re ready to decorate for Christmas on a budget!
I hope you enjoyed this Joy Christmas Shelf Sitter as much as I did and decide to make it for yourself! I would love to see how yours turns out!
