How to Make a Home Sweet Home Lemon Printable DIY Decor
Alright, first you need to make sure that you have the FREE Home Sweet Home Lemon Printable for this project.
Cut and remove the white space from around the printable design. Then, you’re going to remove the screen from the frame. I simply cut the screen off instead of trying to pull the staples out the back.
Next, I stained the frame with Apple Barrel Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint. Use a wet wipe to spread the brown paint across the wood. Then, use a clean wipe to remove any excess paint.
Allow the frame to dry completely. I like to use my heat gun to speed up the drying process. If you don’t have a heat gun, you can always use a hairdryer on the low, cool setting.
How to decoupage using Modpodge
I wanted this Home Sweet Home Lemon Printable DIY Decor to have a planked look, so I used craft sticks to make the surface for the printable.
Next, lay the lemon printable with the design facing down. Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the craft sticks, one by one, and place them onto the printable side by side. Learning how to decoupage is so easy!
Once the Mod Podge is dry, use an Exacto Knife to cut the printable in between each craft stick. Then, cut the ends of each of the craft sticks with scissors.
Next, I lightly sanded the edges of each of the craft sticks with a sanding sponge. Be careful not to tear or pull up the printable from the craft sticks while you’re sanding.
Now you need to reassemble the craft sticks and piece the printable design back together. Once they’re back in order, hot glue craft sticks to the back of the design to secure them together.
Then, trim the ends of the craft sticks to smooth out the edges on all sides of the design.
Next, I stained around the printable design with the same technique I used on the frame. Once the paint is dry, hot glue the decoupaged craft sticks onto the stained frame!
How to make a DIY bead hanger
To make the hanger for this Home Sweet Home Lemon Printable DIY Decor, I put my wooden beads into a small plastic mixing bowl (you can get them at Dollar Tree) and sprayed them with water.
Then, I poured white paint (I used Apple Barrel Snow White) into the bowl and swirled the beads around until they were all coated with paint.
I kept swirling the beads while I blowed them with my heat gun to dry the paint. If you don’t have a heat gun, you can use a hairdryer on the low cool setting.
How to make your own polka dot bead hanger:
Once they’re all dry, thread the beads onto a piece of jute twine. I used a black Sharpie marker to put polka dots on half the beads and alternated plain and polka dot beads as I threaded them.
Keep adding beads to the hanger until you’re happy with its length. Secure the end beads with either a dab of hot glue or by tying a knot next to each end bead.
Finally, secure the hanger to the back of the frame! I hot glued the ends of the twine onto the frame, then hot glued a piece of a craft stick over the ends to make them more secure.
How to make a DIY ribbon bow
I used two different ribbon patterns (black buffalo check and lemon design) to make the little DIY bow for this adorable Home Sweet Home Lemon Printable DIY Decor.
Cut two strips of the buffalo check ribbon and one strip of the lemon design ribbon. Lay the buffalo check strips in an X and put the lemon strip horizontally across them.
Secure the center of the ribbon strips with a piece of jute twine. Trim the ends of the jute twine and hot glue the little bow to the top of the frame!
Lastly, I hot glued a little button over the center of the bow and stained it with a small bit of brown paint!
