How to Make a Faux Concrete Metal Planter
If you want to see the full supply list or video tutorial, just scroll to the bottom of this page!
The first step of this project is making the glue molds! You need to pick the molds that you want and fill them with hot glue.
Allow the glue to dry and harden completely, then remove them from the molds. File down any imperfections on the molds.
Scratch up the surface of the metal bucket with a piece of sandpaper where you want the glue molds to stick, then secure them with E6000 glue to the metal.
Now, mix a bit of the black chalk paint with Dollar Tree spackling. Use a paintbrush to apply the mixture onto the metal bucket.
The spackling helps give the metal bucket the concrete texture I wanted for this DIY decorative planter.
Allow the paint/spackling mixture to dry completely on the bucket. Then, use a wet wipe to dab white paint over the black paint/spackling on the bucket.
Brush white paint onto the bucket in random places to get more of a concentration in those spots. Now it’s time to make it look dirty!
Lightly dab brown paint over the dried white paint. You don’t want to use too much, just enough to make it look like dirty concrete. You can smudge with a wet wipe if you think there is too much brown.
Repeat that process on the bottom and the rest of the metal bucket. Allow the bucket to dry completely, then just fill it with your floral arrangement/greenery of choice!
For this project, I used these items but you can substitute where you want.
