Farmhouse DIY 4th of July Decor

I am absolutely IN LOVE with how amazing this Farmhouse DIY 4th of July Decor turned out! Sometimes I think holiday decor can look kind of tacky or it won’t match any other style of decor.

My goal for this DIY idea was to create something that would actually match my home decor, and wouldn’t be an eyesore on my wall!

How to Make a Farmhouse DIY 4th of July Decor

You’re going to start this DIY by removing the backing from your Dollar Tree square frame. You can also use a Dollar Tree sign box if you can’t find the frame that I used.

Once I removed the backing from the frame, I pulled the front paper design off the square because it was already pulling up from the surface.

Next, paint the square surface with white paint. I used Folkart white chalk paint, but you can use any white paint you already have on hand.

Before you can decoupage the napkin onto the surface, you need to separate the napkin plies. If you don’t, the top napkin ply (the one with the design on it) might not adhere to the surface properly.

Now, apply a coat of Mod Podge over the white paint and place the napkin onto the surface. You can use a rolling pin or plastic saran wrap to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles in the napkin.

Once the Mod Podge has dried, remove the excess napkin from the sign. The easiest way to do that, in my opinion, is use a sanding sponge on the edges of the sign.

Next, you need to add some color to the plain Dollar Tree frame. To do that, I used Apple Barrel Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint and a chippy paintbrush.

Lightly brush a small amount of brown paint onto the frame. Let your first coat dry, then apply another coat. It almost gives the frame a faux wood grain finish!

Hobby Lobby USA Ornament

The USA ornament that I used for this Farmhouse DIY 4th of July Decor was already cute, but it didn’t match my vision for this project.

So, I made some changes to it! I painted the letters completely with Folkart Navy Blue Acrylic Paint. Then, I painted the two stars with white paint.

You can set the USA ornament to the side for now, and get your beads and jute twine to make the hanger for this adorable Farmhouse DIY 4th of July Decor.

First, paint the beads white. I put the wood beads in a small bowl and pour in the white paint. Then, swirl all the beads until they’re each coated with paint.

I then keep swirling the beads while I dry them with the heat gun until they are all dry. Now, thread the beads onto the jute twine until you’re happy with the length of the hanger.

Put a dab of hot glue on the twine at each of the end beads to keep them all in place. You could also tie the twine in knots at the end beads.

Bring it all together

Make sure everything is completely dry, then get ready to bring all the pieces of this Farmhouse DIY 4th of July Decor together!

Hot glue the decoupaged square back into the frame, then hot glue the painted USA ornament to the center of the sign.

Now, make a raffia bow. Bundle several pieces of raffia together and secure the center with either another piece of raffia or twine.

Then, cut the ends of the bundled raffia to create your bow and hot glue it above the USA ornament!

Finally, attach your white bead hanger onto the the sign. Hot glue the ends of the twine to the back of the sign, then hot glue a small piece of fabric on each end to secure them more.

***I do have a question for you…..what is the difference in using acrylic and chalk? Does one cover better or it’s just your preference? Thank you….you are such a great DIYer!
