How to Make a Easy Paint Stick DIY Planter Box
The first thing I did was remove the hanger from the adorable Fresh Flower Market Sign. I just ripped it off and pulled the staples out the back of the sign.
Then, get seven 1-gallon paint sticks and lay them so that they line up with the edges of the fresh flower market sign.
Once you have them evenly spaced and lined up the way you want them, trim two 1-gallon paint sticks so they fit horizontally across the seven paint sticks.
Hot glue the two trimmed paint sticks horizontally across the seven vertical paint sticks to secure them together.
How to stain wood
Once the paint sticks are secured together, it’s time to stain them! I used Apple Barrel Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint, but you can use whichever paint you prefer or have on hand.
Pour some brown paint into a small mixing bowl, then pour a bit of water into that same bowl. Mix the paint and water, and use a chippy paintbrush to apply the mixture to the paint sticks.
I then went back over the wood with a wet wipe to remove any excess paint from the wood and get the stained finish I wanted.
Next, I removed the stickers on the edge of the wooden rulers and trimmed the rulers to be the same length as the fresh flower market sign.
Then, I stapled the three rulers together. Take six quart paint sticks, trim the curved ends off, and cut points on one end of each stick.
Hot glue the fresh flower market sign onto the six quart paint sticks. They’ll look like a picket fence behind the sign.
Then, I used the same paint/water mixture to stain the part of the quart paint sticks that were not covered by the fresh flower market sign.
Bring it all together
Hot glue the fresh flower market sign/picket fence to one side of the wooden ruler base. Then, you’re going to attach the paint stick fence to the other side of the base.
To do that, you need to cut six pieces of the quart paint sticks to fit the width of the base. Use the same staining technique from the paint sticks to stain these pieces.
Then, hot glue the paint stick fence to the backside of the base and hot glue the paint stick pieces on either side to connect the front and back fences.
Once all the glue is dry and your pieces are secured together, you’re going to place the floral foam inside the DIY planter box.
You can hot glue it to the base to make it a bit more secure, but you don’t have to. You could also fill the box with Spanish Moss instead of floral foam and flowers. The choice is yours!
If you go with the floral foam method, just pick out the flowers/greenery you want to use and press the stems into the floral foam until you’re happy with the floral arrangement!
Lastly, I hot glued a strip of the white pom pom ribbon across the top of the paint stick picket fence!
