How to Make a Dollar Tree DIY Orange Flower Decor
First, I traced out the pot of my wooden flowers on the Dollar Tree cookie tin and cut three tin pots out.
Then, I painted the stems and flowers of each of the wooden flowers with the Craftsmart Olive Green paint.
Paint the petals of each of the flowers with Apple Barrel Tropic Orange Acrylic Paint and stain the pots with Apple Barrel Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint.
Pour the brown paint onto the wood and use a wet wipe to spread the paint across the wood. The water helps the wood absorb the paint pigment and gives you a stained finish.
Next, use your finger to add a small bit of brown paint on each of the tin pot cutouts to create a faux rusted finish. This isn’t the full faux rust technique I typically use, but it works just fine for this!
Add the detail to your wooden flowers
After I applied the acrylic paint, I dabbed a bit of Folkart Java Chalk Paint onto the cookie tin. Keep going until you’re happy with the faux rust finish.
Once the paint is dry on the tin pots, hot glue them onto the wooden flowers. Then, I wrapped some jute twine around the top of the pots and tied it in a little bow.
Use a fine-tip paintbrush and paint polka dots on the flowers’ petals with the Folkart Navy Blue Acrylic Paint.
Paint a line on each of the leaves with white paint, and use your finger to slightly smudge the paint. You can even add a bit of water to really get the white paint to smudge.
Then, paint back over the white paint with olive green to mix with the white paint and create a slightly highlighted effect.
Next, I painted white polka dots over the blue polka dots on the flower petals, and paint the little buttons white. Use your finger to smudge/distress the paint on the buttons.
I stained the middle circle with brown paint, then hot glued the painted button onto the circle.
Bring it all together
Remove the backing from your Dollar Tree picture frame. Then, lightly brush the Apple Barrel Elephant Grey Acrylic Paint.
I wiped over the frame with a wet wipe to remove a little bit of the paint and get the finish that I wanted for this DIY project.
Hot glue the Dollar Tree nautical rope to the back of the frame. I hot glued some paper over the ends to secure the rope just a bit more to the frame.
Hot glue the bottom of the Dollar Tree wooden flowers to the inside of the frame. I hot glued popsicle sticks behind the flowers to make them more secure to the frame.
Now, you need to pick out the background for your Dollar Tree DIY Orange Flower Decor!
I was torn between a plain white piece of paper or a wooden planked pattern. I asked my Crafty Crew for their advice, and we decided to go with the planked pattern!
One you pick your background, just go ahead and hot glue it to the back of the frame, and you’re ready to decorate with this adorable DIY decor!
