DIY Spring Flower Box Decor

Can you guess what the secret supply is for this adorable DIY Spring Flower Box? Well, I’ll just go ahead and tell you… It’s CARDBOARD! I made the box for this cute flower box out of just cardboard!

I have so much fun finding ways to make adorable home decor out of everyday items, like cardboard, and I am so happy with how amazing (and affordable) this spring decor DIY is!

How to make a DIY Spring Flower Box

Alright, so get your piece of cardboard and cut it into the same shape as mine. You can decide how tall you want your flower box to be, and cut the cardboard accordingly.

Then, apply a coat of Mod Podge to the side of the cardboard that will be the inside of your flower box. Once the Mod Podge is dry, hot glue the wings of your cardboard together to create a box with an open top!

Before you secure the last side of the box with hot glue, go ahead and insert your floral foam. Cut the foam to fit into the box, and hot glue it about halfway up the box.

Once the glue is dried and the box is secured together, paint the exterior of the box with white paint. Set the box to the side, and grab your wooden letters.

I chose to make my DIY flower box say “Hello There,” but as always, you can make yours say whatever you want it to! When I originally made this DIY project, I used Dixie Belle chalk paint, but you can use whichever paint you already have or prefer.

Use a wet wipe to apply the black paint to each of the letters. The water in the wet wipe will give the wooden letter more of a stained finish rather than a painted look.

How to decoupage

Apply Mod Podge to your DIY cardboard box and place the gift wrap onto it. Make sure to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles that form, then allow it all to dry. I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process.

Next, you need your ribbons! Cut a strip of each ribbon so that they can wrap around the entire cardboard box. Hot glue the wider ribbon closer to the bottom than the top of the box.

Make sure your letters are dry, then hot glue them to the DIY flower box. I put “Hello” above the ribbon and “There” below it. Then, hot glue the second ribbon strip (the thinner one) around the box over the middle of the first ribbon.

Finally, you’re going to add in your flowers! I used pink and white Dollar Tree flowers. Just push them into the floral foam until you’re happy with the arrangement.

Lastly, poke a hole in each of the thin sides of the box. Push white jute twine through the hole from the outside and tie the end in a knot. Do this on both sides to create a hanger for your DIY Spring flower box!
