How to Make a DIY Snowman Family Sign
I started this easy winter craft project by laying out the Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower blocks on my piece of cardboard to decide how large my sign was going to be and how many blocks I would need to make the frame.
Then, I hot glued the blocks together to create each side of the frame (4 strips of blocks). Once the glue was dry and the blocks were secured together, I stained them with brown paint.
How to stain wood with paint
To stain wood with brown paint, you need wet wipes and I like to have a spray bottle filled with water. Spray the wood with water, pour the paint onto the wood, and use a wet wipe to spread it across the surface.
Go over the wood with a clean wet wipe to remove any excess paint from the surface, and you’re left with a stained finish!
Let the wood blocks dry completely, then hot glue them onto the cardboard and trim the excess cardboard from around the DIY block frame.
Next, I measured out the Dollar Tree towel and marked where I needed to trim it so it would fit inside the DIY block frame. I used hot glue to secure it to the cardboard.
Start your snowman family
The snowmen I used had slits in them, so I filled them with hot glue and let the glue dry. Then, I painted each of the snowmen with white paint.
Allow the white paint to dry, then paint the top hats on each snowman with black paint. I like to use Apple Barrel or DecoArt because they are so affordable and of great quality for my craft ideas!
Next up are the buttons! Get three buttons for each snowman and paint them your desired color. I used brown paint for my buttons. Once the paint is dry, hot glue the buttons to each snowman.
I made sure the black paint on the tophats was dry, then I hot glued some ribbon across each hat. Then, I used baker’s twine to make scarves for each snowman.
Bring it all together
Once you’re happy with your snowmen, go ahead and hot glue them onto the Dollar Tree towel.
Then, hot glue the winter village Christmas trees on either side of your DIY snowman family. Next, I hot glued the snowflake foam scatters above the snowmen.
Lastly, I hot glued a piece of the Dollar Tree wood bead garland at the top of the sign to create the hanger for my DIY snowman family sign!
