How to make a DIY Planter or Decorative Bucket
The first thing you need to do for this easy DIY project is paint the bucket with white chalk paint. I know, the bucket is already white, but the paint lets you add texture to the bucket.
Let the white paint dry completely, then get your printable printed and cut to the right size. Apply Mod Podge to where you want the printable and place the paper onto the surface.
Ball up some plastic saran wrap and use it to smooth out the wrinkles and bubbles in the printable, and let the Mod Podge dry.
Then, use a dry chippy paintbrush to lightly brush the Apple Barrel black paint across the bucket from the edges to the centers of each side.
This is what’s going to create the aged finish on the bucket. The white paint gives the texture for the black paint to sort of streak, like on wood.
If you apply too much of the black paint, you can lightly go over it with a sanding sponge. Once the paint is dry, fill your DIY planter or decorative bucket and you’re ready to decorate!
If you want to put real flowers in this bucket, you need to make sure to drill holes in the bottom so the water can drain out and you don’t drown your flowers.
