Faux stained glass suncatchers are the perfect way to bring a pop of color and sparkle into your space—without the complexity of traditional glasswork!

At The Makers Map, we make it easy by providing laser-cut wood outlines that are designed specifically for faux stained glass crafts. Step by step instructions to create faux stained glass:

  1. Start with a laser-cut design – Choose from a wide range of shapes like cardinals, hummingbirds, crosses, hearts, flowers and more.
  2. Paint or stain the wood cutout – Before assembling your piece, add paint or stain to the wood to give it a finished, polished look. Let it dry completely.
  3. Add paper transfer tape to the back – Stick transfer tape to the back of the wood cutout. This helps hold the crushed glass in place and keeps the resin from leaking through.
  4. Add color with crushed glass – Fill each section with your choice of colored crushed glass to replicate the look of traditional stained glass.
  5. Add Resin – Carefully pour clear resin over the crushed glass sections, making sure everything is covered and evenly coated.
  6. Let it cure, then peel the tape – Once the resin has cured fully, gently peel off the paper transfer tape from the back.
  7. Add a chain to hang and display – Finish your suncatcher by attaching a chain or ribbon and hanging it in a sunny window to catch the light beautifully.
