DIY Faux Stained Glass Cardinal Sun Catcher

Bring a pop of color to your space with our DIY Faux Stained Glass Cardinal Sun Catcher! This beginner-friendly kit features a bold red cardinal surrounded by shimmering green leaves, all created using crushed glass and resin — no glass cutting required.

Perfect for craft nights, workshops, or seasonal decor, this project is fun, relaxing, and makes a beautiful handmade gift. The pre-cut wood design makes it easy for anyone to create a stunning piece that looks like real stained glass.

At The Makers Map, we make it easy by providing laser-cut wood outlines that are designed specifically for faux stained glass crafts. With just a few simple materials—crushed glass, resin, and a little creativity—you can transform these laser wood cutouts into gorgeous sun catchers that mimic the look of stained glass. These wood frame outlines are perfect for glass crafting workshops and classes too!

Step by step instructions to create DIY Faux Stained Glass Cardinal Sun Catcher:

1. Paint or Stain the Outline
Paint the wood outline black for a stained glass look, or stain it for a natural wood finish. Let dry completely.

2. Apply Transfer Tape
Flip the outline face-down and apply paper transfer tape to the back. Press firmly so all the open spaces are sealed.

3. Add Crushed Glass
With the outline face up, fill each section with the appropriate crushed glass colors — red for the cardinal, green for leaves, etc. Press the glass in gently.

4. Add & Cure Resin
Slowly pour resin over the crushed glass to fill each section. let it cure fully if using epoxy.

5. Peel & De-Mask
Once cured, carefully peel off the transfer tape. Admire your creation! Curing time will vary based on the brand of resin you use.

6. Hang & Enjoy
Add string or hooks through the top holes and display your finished sun catcher in a sunny window! Remember that all resin can yellow. So it is best to display in a covered area not in the direct sun.
