DIY Farmhouse Red Truck Shelf Sitter
I love a good red truck DIY, and this DIY Farmhouse Red Truck Shelf Sitter is no exception! Almost all of the items I used to make this adorable DIY are from Dollar Tree!
This simple Dollar Tree DIY is so neutral that you could display it in your home all year. Add a few little pumpkins or Christmas trees and you can make it specifically for Fall or Christmas decor!
How to Make a DIY Farmhouse Red Truck Shelf Sitter
If you use the Dollar Tree Valentine’s Day sign that I used, you’ll need to remove the LOVE from the front of the surface. Carefully use a putty knife to pry the letters off the front of the sign.
I then just drug the putty knife over the front of the sign to pull up the ends of the paper and smooth out the surface.
Next, apply a coat of Mod Podge to the back of the Dollar Tree sign. You can paint the surface with white paint if you want to.
Then, place your buffalo check scrapbook paper onto the Mod Podge. Use a rolling pin or ball up some plastic saran wrap to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles in the paper.
Once the paper is secured onto the surface, go around the edges and trim the excess scrapbook paper with a pair of scissors.
How to use Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower blocks
To create the base of the this DIY Farmhouse Red Truck Shelf Sitter, you need 20 Tumbling Tower blocks. Hot glue them together to create one long base.
Make sure the glue is dry and the blocks are secured together, then you’re going to stain the wood! I like to use brown paint to stain my wood because it is more affordable.
First, spray the wood with water (I use a continuous mist spray bottle). Then, use a wet wipe to spread the brown paint across the wood.
The water helps the wood absorb the paint pigment and gives it a perfect stained finish! You can go. back over the wood with a clean wet wipe to remove any excess paint.
While you have the brown paint out, go ahead and stain the wooden caps as well. These are going to be the feet of this adorable DIY Farmhouse Red Truck Shelf Sitter.
Dollar Tree Red Truck
I absolutely love using the red trucks from Dollar Tree because I completely refinish them to make them actually look high-end!
First, you’re going to lightly brush white paint onto the truck. You want a very light hand and not an even coat of paint.
You want the red to be slightly peeking through the white paint. Allow the white paint to completely dry, then go over the truck with a sanding sponge to distress the paint.
Next, you’re going to add in some of the Waverly Antique Wax. Lightly brush the wax around the grooves of the red truck to enhance its details.
Bring it all together
Hot glue four Tumbling Tower blocks to the block base strip. These will be used to prop up the Dollar Tree sign and keep it from falling over.
Then, flip the base over and hot glue the four wooden stained caps to the bottom four corners of the base.
Next, hot glue the truck to the front of the decoupaged buffalo check sign. Be sure to press the truck down and really secure it in place.
Now, you’re going to hot glue the sign onto the base. Put the hot glue on the four blocks you glued to the top of the base and press the sign firmly until it is secured.
The finishing touches
Cut the stems of your faux succulents and hot glue the succulents just above the bed of the truck to make it look like the truck bed is full of succulents.
Hot glue a bit of the Dollar Tree Spanish Moss around the succulents. Finally, hot glue the moss around the bottom of the sign on the block base!
I hope you enjoyed this DIY Farmhouse Red Truck Shelf Sitter as much as I did and decide to make it for yourself! If you do, I would love to see how yours turns out!
