How to Make a Bamboo Skewer DIY Planter Box
The Dollar Tree box that I used for this adorable DIY farmhouse planter had some string on the lid, so I had to remove that first.
Then, I painted the box with brown paint. I like to use Apple Barrel paints because they’re easy to find, affordable, and of great quality for my DIY projects.
You don’t have to worry about getting full coverage of paint because you’re going to hot glue the bamboo skewers onto the sides to make the planter box. Paint the box lid brown as well.
Stain eight of the Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower blocks and 12 of the Dollar Tree wood craft cubes. To do that, mix a bit of brown paint with water and use a wet wipe to spread the mixture on the wood.
Make your bamboo skewer planter
Once the paint is dry on your Dollar Tree box, go ahead and start hot gluing the bamboo skewers onto the sides of the box.
You can trim the skewers so they don’t hang over the top of the planter box as you are hot gluing them in place. Once you have them all secured to the box, you need to stain them brown.
Use a paintbrush to apply a brown paint/water mixture to the bamboo skewers, then wipe them with a wet wipe to remove any excess paint.
Then, hot glue the wood craft cubes to the bottom of the box. I did twelve wood craft cubes around the outer edge on the bottom of the planter box.
Next, I lightly sanded the lid and hot glued two stained blocks together (I stained 8, so I created 4 legs) and hot glued them in each corner inside the box lid.
Bring it all together
I hot glued the Dollar Tree burlap ribbon around the box lid and the middle of the bamboo skewer planter box.
Then, I painted a black line below the burlap ribbon with Apple Barrel black acrylic paint. Hot glue the bamboo skewer planter box to the top of the box lid.
Paint a black line around the bottom and top of the planter box and paint the Tumbling Tower block legs black as well.
Hot glue half wood beads in two lines on each side of the planter box. Then, just put your floral foam in the planter box and push your foliage into the foam!
