How to Make a DIY Hello Fall Sign
Start by removing the stretched canvas from its frame. Keep the canvas as intact as you can. Then, you’re going to stain the wood frame with Apple Barrel burnt umber acrylic paint.
Pour the paint around the face of the frame and use a wet wipe to spread it across the surface. Make sure you get the inner and outer edges of the frame as well.
Next, trim up the edges of the removed stretched canvas and apply a coat of Mod Podge to the surface of the canvas and place the scrapbook paper on the canvas.
Cover the paper with a piece of plastic saran wrap and use a rolling pin or your hands to smooth out the wrinkles or creases in the scrapbook paper.
The saran wrap is a non-stick barrier that prevents the scrapbook paper from sticking to the rolling pin or your hands and keeps it from pulling from the canvas or tearing.
Paint your Fall truck!
Let the Mod Podge dry and set the canvas to the side for now. Next, I painted my truck with a few different shades of green paints!
You can watch the tutorial replay to see exactly which paints and the technique I used to get the perfect color and finish on my truck.
I cut two circles out of my cardboard to go behind the wheels on the truck and cover the holes. Then, I painted them with the Modern Master’s silver paint.
Let the paint dry then hot glue them to the back of the wheels, and hot glue a half wood bead to the front of the wheel. Now, it’s time to get your letters painted!
Bring it all together!
I chose to make my sign say “Hello Fall,” but you can go with whatever phrase you want! I painted each of the letters with Waverly orange chalk paint.
Let the paint dry on the letters (I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process), then hot glue the canvas/scrapbook paper to the back of the canvas frame.
I added some staples to the back of the canvas to really secure it in place some more. Then, I hot glued some Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower blocks to the back of the truck just under the fence.
The blocks allowed me to hot glue the Spanish moss without it looking flattened behind the truck. Then, I put hot glue on the blocks and secured the truck to the canvas.
Once the letters were dry, I brushed a bit of brown paint onto them so they would look aged, and I hot glued them in the space above the truck.
Lastly, I hot glued some of the little sunflowers in the bed of the green fall truck!
