Let’s get started!
The first step to recreating my adorable everyday buffalo check planter is to cut the tissue paper to fit onto the Dollar Tree Valentine’s Day trucks.
I used two trucks (I wanted this planter to be double-sided) so I needed to have two tissue paper cutouts.
We aren’t going to decoupage the tissue paper over the entire surface of the trucks. Instead, I didn’t cut the tissue paper to cover the wheels or the window of the trucks.
Set your tissue paper cutouts to the side. We will decoupage them after we give our Valentine’s Day trucks a little bit of love!
Before we can decoupage the tissue paper onto these Dollar Tree trucks, we have to cover up that bright red color.
I painted the entire surface of both trucks, except the wheels, with Dixie Belle Midnight Sky paint (black). Allow the black paint to dry.
Next, paint each truck with Dixie Belle Fluff Paint (white). Again, don’t paint the wheels. Allow the white paint to dry before you try to decoupage the tissue paper onto Dollar Tree Valentine’s Day trucks.
I like to use my heat gun to speed up the drying process. If you don’t have a heat gun, you can use a hairdryer on the low cool setting.
How to decoupage
Now that both trucks are painted and the paints are dry, we are ready to decoupage! Apply a coat of Mod Podge onto the painted side of each Dollar Tree truck and carefully place the buffalo check tissue paper cutouts onto the Mod Podged surfaces.
If there are any wrinkles or creases in your tissue paper, you can place a piece of plastic saran wrap over the surface and use your hands or a rolling pin to smooth out the imperfections.
Once the Mod Podge is dry, you are ready to connect the two trucks! To connect the decoupaged Dollar Tree trucks, I used two wood rectangles from Michael’s. I found them in their craft section, but you could also use giant paint sticks or even popsicle sticks.
If you don’t have any of those supplies, you could even use cardboard! You would just cut rectangles out of the cardboard and hot glue them to the wood trucks.
Bring them together
Start by hot gluing both of the wood rectangles to the back of one of the trucks. I used a paint stick to line up the rectangles and make sure they were even.
Once both of the wood rectangles are secure on the back of the first truck, it is time to attach the second wood truck.
This step was a little bit difficult just because I had to make sure the trucks were level and the planter wouldn’t be wobbly.
I had to create a base underneath the inner rectangle of the planter. For this, I used giant craft sticks. Hot glue them across the bottom of the planter and have each end of the craft sticks attached to the wood rectangles.
To secure the craft sticks and prevent them from being once I added the plants, I hot glued small pieces of the giant craft sticks across the bottom craft sticks.
Add the moss
The Dollar Tree Valentine’s Day truck doesn’t have an empty bed, so I needed to add something to the top of the bed of the truck to cover up where the hearts were. I decided to use Walmart green moss to cover up that space.
Pull a small bit out of the bag, and I recommend having a piece of wax paper or craft paper where you set the moss because it can be a bit messy!
Start adding hot glue to the top of the space above the bed of the truck and slowly add more and more moss until you’re happy with the coverage.
Next, I removed three of the white flowers from the Dollar Tree floral spray. Cut the flowers at their base instead of leaving a bit of them on the flowers. Then, hot glue each of the flowers on top of the bed of moss.
Repeat this process on the other side of the planter. Hot glue the moss onto the top space of the bed of the truck and then hot glue the white flowers over the moss.
Finally, go back over the edges of your window with either a black marker or black paint. Also, draw a little door handle just beneath the window, and paint the top half circle above the wheels.
I didn’t do these steps on the video, but I think they really add to the project and are the perfect finishing touches! All that’s left to do is add your flowers to the planter!

Great idea, makes an adorable planter
Another cute idea. Like it. Love the trucks to make planters. Working on one right now that I just cannot get a handle on it. LOL
