This is actually a super easy Dollar Tree DIY, but there are quite a few steps. I walk you through, step-by-step how to recreate my DIY Tree Farm sign, but there is also a video tutorial if you want to watch me make it.

Watch the replay!

I recorded this Dollar Tree Christmas Sign DIY during a LIVE video over on my Facebook page, and I talk you through each step and what I am doing.

I love to chat with my Crafty Crew, so the video isn’t strictly crafting. However,  you can fast forward to the parts that you want to see.

Let’s get started!

To start this easy DIY Christmas Decor, you’re going to remove the rope hanger from the Dollar Tree wood arrow sign and stain the wood red.

First, wet the wood with a spray bottle. Then, spread Craft Smart Red Acrylic Paint across the entire surface of the sign with a baby wipe.

The water helps the wood absorb the paint and gives it a stained finish rather than a painted look. Make sure that you get an even coating of the red paint and cover the edges of the wood arrow sign.

Allow the wood to completely dry before you move to this next step. I like to use my heat gun to speed up the drying process.

Next, you’re going to place the Dollar Tree letter stickers. I chose to spell out “Tree Farm,” but you can put whatever phrase you’d like.

Don’t worry if you don’t like the bright red background with green letters. It’s going to turn out cute, just trust the process!

Trust the Process!

Use Apple Barrel White Acrylic Paint and paint an even coating over the entire surface of the wood sign. You’re going to paint over the letters, but that’s okay.

Allow the white paint to dry completely, then use a Dollar Tree wood skewer to remove each of the Dollar Tree letter stickers.

Now, sand over the edges of the Dollar Tree arrow sign. This is going to allow the red paint to peek through the white coat and give the DIY decor a distressed look.

Set the painted Tree Farm sign to the side and grab the wood plaque from Michael’s.

Now we are going to stain the wood plaque with the Apple Barrel Black Acrylic Paint. Use the same technique you. used on the Dollar Tree wood arrow sign.

Start by wetting the wood, then spread the black paint across the entire surface of the wood with a baby wipe. Make sure to get an even coating around the top and edges.

Allow the wood to dry, then use a chippy paintbrush to lightly dry brush an uneven coat of the Apple Barrel White Acrylic Paint. We want the plaque, which will be the base of our stand, to have a distressed look.

If you paint to even of a coat and you can’t see the black color peeking through, you can always go over the wood plaque with a sanding sponge.

Oh, Christmas Tree!

Now it is time to stain the Dollar Tree wood Christmas Tree ornament. Use the same technique that you used for the Dollar Tree wood sign and Michael’s wood plaque.

Wet the wood, the spread the Apple Barrel Christmas Gree Acrylic Paint with a baby wipe. Allow the green paint to dry, then use an artist’s brush to paint small white circles onto the Christmas Tree.

The wood Christmas Tree ornament already has the shape of a star at the top, all you have to do is paint it. So, I used the Craft Smart Red Acrylic Paint and outline the bottom of the star, then filled it in.

Lightly brush a small amount of paint around the edges of the Christmas Tree and its star to give the tree a snowy look.

Make the stand

To make the stand for your Tree Farm Sign, you’re going to use the painted Michael’s wood plaque, a Dollar Tree wood skewer, and different-sized wood beads. I like to get the variety pack from Amazon!

First, drill a hole into the wood plaque. You’re going to place the skewer into the hole and hot glue it into place.

Next, place the wood beads onto the skewer, alternating bead sizes as you go.

Start putting it all together

To finish off the Tree Farm sign, you’re going to wrap the Dollar Tree baker’s twine around the outer edges of the Dollar Tree wood arrow sign. Hot glue the baker’s twine as you place it around the edges.

Now, hot glue the painted wood Christmas Tree to the center of the arrow sign, between your “Tree Farm” lettering.

I used Dollar Tree canvas remnants to attach the Tree Farm sign to its stand. Place the DIY Tree Farm Sign face down with the wood skewer on the center of the back. Hot glue a piece of Dollar Tree canvas remnants over the wood skewer.

My sign was slightly off-center, so it was wanting to lean over. To fix this, I hot glued small pieces of popsicle sticks to one end of the tree farm sign to balance it out.
